About Krewe of Centaur

Building Community Through Mardi Gras Since 1991

Krewe of Centaur is a Mardi Gras parading organization that has brought families and communities together since 1991. What began as a group bound by common goals—building a better community and creating quality family entertainment—has grown into the largest parade in the Ark-La-Tex region and one of the very largest single parading Krewes in Louisiana.

Our parade rolls two Saturdays before Fat Tuesday, drawing participants and spectators who return year after year. You'll see the care and enthusiasm that goes into every float, every throw, and every moment along the route.

This isn't just pageantry for its own sake. The Krewe operates on principles established more than three decades ago: strengthen the community and provide wholesome fun that families can enjoy together. Those twin goals shape everything from route planning to float design to how we engage with parade-goers.

When you attend a Krewe of Centaur parade, you're experiencing the result of months of preparation by members who volunteer their time, creativity, and resources to put on a celebration that reflects the spirit of Mardi Gras while maintaining a family-friendly atmosphere.

Three Decades of Growth and Tradition

Since organizing in 1991, Krewe of Centaur has expanded steadily in both scale and community impact. The parade has grown bigger and better with every passing year, evolving from its early roots into a spectacle that rivals New Orleans productions in size while maintaining the character and accessibility that define Ark-La-Tex Mardi Gras.

Our distinction as one of Louisiana's largest single parading Krewes reflects the dedication of members who work throughout the year to build floats, plan throws, coordinate logistics, and ensure that every parade delivers the experience families expect. Single parading Krewes handle every aspect of their celebration internally, from concept to execution, creating a cohesive vision that shows in the final product.

The timing of our parade—ten days before Fat Tuesday—positions the event as a highlight of the regional Mardi Gras season. Families know they can mark their calendars for that second Saturday and count on a celebration that delivers spectacle, tradition, and community connection.

Being part of Krewe of Centaur means contributing to something larger than a single event. Members share the satisfaction of knowing their efforts directly benefit the community and create memories for thousands of people who line the parade route each year.
